Project 6 - Jett McCreary

2.

3.

1.

Instructions:
1. set out supplies
2. place Bristol board on a surface
3. allow people to cover their hand in art supplies
4. wipe across the paper

I originally had people using just charcoal, but I didn't like how it was showing up on paper so I added some colored supplies. I do agree it looks very finger-painty, which if I did over I would try to change. I felt very neutral bout this project. I like the concept but I didn't particularly like how mine came out.

Project 6 - Lincoln Soucy

Materials:
-1 sharp knife
-1 machete (optional)
-1 sheet of bristol board
-A roll of duct tape
-A set of paint
-A cup of water

Instructions:

1. Take a sharp knife or machete into the woods.
2. Cut off a branch of the desired size from a maple tree.
3. Cut strips of bark and wood from the end of the branch/stick.
4. Carefully split the wood shavings down into hair-like fibers.
5. Bundle the wood fibers.
6. Wrap duct tape around fibers leaving at least half of the fiber bundle exposed.
7. Sharpen a fragment of the branch you acquired to a point and attach it to the bundle of fibers.
8. Paint the remaining branch where you left it once you started to work on the brush.
(Make sure to keep the brush fibers wet or they wont bend)

I enjoyed this project because it let me extend my knowledge of woodworking into an area I've not worked with before.  I have painted but I've never made a paintbrush before.

Project 6- Nadia Slawick

                                                         The Waves of Classic Rock

Materials:
3-5 different cans of spray paint, a queen sized bed sheet, a clothes line or bar, two rubber bands/clothes pins, classic rock album, speaker, some type of sound wave recorder, and a face mask for safety precautions.

Instructions:

             1. Obtain a queen sized white bed sheet and 3-5 cans of spray paint.
             2. Choose a classic rock album of your choice.
             3. Hang the sheet vertically- up and down by tying the top corners of the sheet to a clothes line or bar using clothes pins or rubber bands.
             4. Play the album of your choice on an extremely loud speaker.
             5. Record the music in a way that allows you to see the sound waves being projected.
             6. While the music is playing and the sound waves are being displayed, replicate the sound waves that you see onto the sheet using spray paint.
             7. Throughout this process, make sure to alternate between the colors occasionally.
             8. Start at the left end of the sheet and continue to replicate the waves while moving across the sheet to the farthest right end.
             9. Once that wave is complete, move the next wave below the first one and repeat step 7 until the sheet is covered.
             10. When the sheet is covered, move back to the top of the sheet and overlap the spray paint.
             11. Repeat steps 6-10 until the album is over.

Project 6 - Angela Brooks

From looking at my Project 6, which I've titled "Dinner of a College Student," nobody could tell what my material was. This was my intention. My inspiration behind this performance piece was what I eat about 4 times a week: Taco Bell. I wanted to do something that I come into contact with frequently and Taco Bell immediately came to mind. I roughly made a set of instructions and followed some parameters when making this piece. My process was to order 2 hard shell tacos everyday for about 10 days and I got different sauce each day. This is not my normal order but I thought that the taco would be the best option for what I was going to perform because the sauce can easily drip out of a hard shell. I had never tried the other sauces before and for some reason I thought they would be different colors but it turns out that they are different textures because some have peppers (?) in them to make them spicier. What I found is that the Hot and Fire sauces are really chunky and the Diablo is extremely thick. This all worked to my advantage though even if I didn't think about having different textures originally.

After I got my order I went home and set my Bristol board on my counter beneath me, where I was eating. I slathered my tacos in the sauce that I picked for that day. I mostly let the sauce drip where it wanted but in the end I did manipulate the board so it dripped where I liked. Instead of my original idea where I would wipe the sauce off the board I thought of just tilting it to once side and letting it drip down the board, this idea seemed more disgusting which was what I wanted to capture.

Instructions:
1. Order 2 hard shell tacos
2. Pick a different sauce each day
3. Let the sauce drip onto the bristol board
4. Once your meal is complete, tip the board to one side and let the sauce slide down
5. repeat the process everyday for 10 days or until the board is covered in sauce (choose a different sauce each day)

in class exercises- Angela Brooks

The first exercise we did. showing the 5 emotions through a piece of a paper was interesting to me. There are so many possibilities for each emotion. Connected was the twisted piece of paper into a ring. Passion was the paper crumpled up into a ball. Sadness was the paper that I ripped into a bunch of pieces. Fear was the folded piece of paper, and lastly agitation was the paper left untouched.

The next exercise that we did with the red string and the glue stuff (I forgot the name) was really fun. I liked working in the groups and rolling the die so you never knew what length you were going to get next. My piece turned out really well and actually came off the wax paper all in once piece. Then when we had to create a composition from our textures and create a collage I knew that I wanted to use the red string in my collage. It was fun to get out of the class and walk around the building to find different textures.
I created a composition using 2 textures in my sketch book but I wasn't really happy with it because I am terrible at drawing. However, when we had to recreate a background composition based off those textures I was excited to see something new I could create.

When we were assigned the last exercise I was slightly concerned as to how I was going to recreate the previous exercise using just these giant black pieces of paper. It got easier however and I wasn't as hard as I had expected. I like the end result but I haven't yet suspended mine with the pins. Below is a picture of what it looks like before I suspend it on the wall.

Project 6

Instructions
  1. Start with blank piece of paper and shine a light on it
  2. Have your hand model make the proper hand shape
  3. Get a rough tracing
  4. Go back over in pen and get a solid outline then color in black
  5. Paint scenes around some
  6. Cut some out to be abstract
  7. Leave some as is
I really enjoyed making these shadow puppets and they're actually something I might redo to make more intricate scenes, almost like a Wayne White painting.
