Reflection

This project was fun. At first it was a little challenging to figure out what I wanted to do for the project but I just combined some of the concepts from this semester's past projects. I like the accordion format because it almost forces the viewer to move around to see the entire piece and I like how you can fold it up and easily move/transport it. I chose to make the squares 2 inches because I like the mini look... it makes it look cute, for a lack of better words.

As an "artist" (HAHHHHAHHHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH....) I naturally create abstract designs even when I'm doodling, and I love painting so I decided to create some abstract symbols/designs by placing one dot on the paper and letting it drip (adding more water if necessary for more flow) and tapped the paper onto the table until the drip stopped or until it was too close to an edge. I did that for two more dots. To create the accordion format I taped the 2 inch squares together with 1/2 inch artist's tape and secured the tape by making one stitch.

Reflection

For this project, I already had an idea of what I wanted to do.  The previous project turned out much better than I had hoped and I wanted to try my luck with a new material.  Since, my beard is always on hand and grows back, I decided to try and work with a material more suited to paintbrush construction.  This proved to be completely wrong.  As soon as I began painting, I realized just how ineffective the brush was.  However, I finished all the same and ended up with a nice beardly painting.

The was the rough draft that is started with. Before I even knew what I wanted to make, I knew for a fact that I wanted to play with different art mediums. It was a challenge that I hadn't done before, and thought it was a good risk to take for a final project. I made the above sketch with a regular mechanical pencil. My initial intention was to make some sort of image or galaxy in the eye and that's what I started off, but ended up just blending various colors.

 The media that I chose was oil pastels, charcoal , graphite pencils, mirror and feathers. I use oil pastels for the pupil and iris which gave it the very rich colors. After buying the oil pastel, I realized that I have never worked with blending them, but that turned out to be not so hard once I used a blending stick. I used mirrors for part of the eye that would typically reflect color. I used feather for the eyelashes. Graphite for the lighter part of the eye and charcoal for the darker areas. I ended up playing around a little more and realized that I like how it looked if I put some mirror on in the feathers and the corner of the inner eye.

I really enjoyed this project, although I had a really hard time coming up with it in the first place. My regret is not taking an exacto knife and cutting out the voids before adding the tape lay over.

Excercises

I enjoyed these exercises. particularly the texture one because texture isn't my strong suit.

Reflection:

I started this project with a really solid idea of what I wanted the result to be. It was going to be a collage in the classical sense. however, when I started with the flower petals i decided that i just wanted to see how far i could go with the one idea.

For this project I wanted to find different way I could use paper. I started with the paper cutting technique. I was not 100% confident in this technique so I chose a butterfly image and cut the white spaces out then I placed orange paper behind them. After that I wanted to do a mosaic with paper. I chose one area of the board to draw more attention to the mosaic. I also wanted to try a paper folding method. This method gave me the opportunity to use small amounts of paper but gave me the most character. I feel all of these method worked out well together and gave it an interesting flow. If i were to do this over I would add more of the different elements making it more to look at.
